Chennai, India – June 18, 2025 – In response to the Indian Army Chief’s strategic vision of “A drone for every soldier,” announced in November 2024, Dakshin Bharat Area has joined hands with ZUPPA Geo Navigation Technologies Pvt. Ltd.—India’s premier deep-tech drone manufacturer—to establish a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) Lab at the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC).
This initiative follows Operation Sindoor, which exposed a critical gap in drone warfare preparedness: the need for soldiers to independently maintain and troubleshoot their UAV systems in high-pressure, real-time environments.
“The real challenge isn’t flying the drone—it’s mastering the electronics behind it, particularly how electromagnetic fields can impact delicate onboard sensors,” said Sai Pattabiram, Founder & MD, ZUPPA. “Our MRO lab is built to deliver this depth of knowledge through a scalable, hands-on learning ecosystem.”
The proposal, shaped by strategic discussions between Lt. Gen. Karanbir Brar, GOC, Dakshin Bharat Area, and ZUPPA, also encompasses DGCA-certified drone pilot training and licensing, to be delivered in collaboration with TNUAV Corporation. With formal approvals secured, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between MRC and ZUPPA to commence implementation.
Key Features: Next-Gen LMS, Skilling for Service & Beyond
At the core of the lab lies ZUPPA’s robust Learning Management System (LMS), delivering modular training—ranging from hardware recognition to EMF diagnostics—via remote access. The LMS is engineered for mass scalability, enabling efficient rollouts across Agniveer programs, reskilling of retiring soldiers, and upskilling currently enrolled personnel.
“This partnership with the Indian Army validates our indigenous capabilities—not only in deep-tech innovation but also in delivering it at scale,” said Venkatesh Sai, Co-founder & Technical Director at ZUPPA. “We see potential to replicate this model across regimental centres nationwide.”
Beyond the Battlefield: MRO Meets Academia
ZUPPA is also deploying its Innovation Labs at AICTE-approved institutions and engineering colleges—bridging the gap between defence-grade technology and academic research. Plans are in motion to expand the MRO model to other technical arms of the Indian Army, paving the way for a digitally empowered and technically skilled defence force.
