Ladakh, Leh, India | 10th September 2025: Bisleri International, India’s leading packaged drinking water company, has successfully restored its third reservoir in the region under its flagship sustainability program, Project Nayi Umeed. The newly inaugurated reservoir, with a capacity of 1.2 million litres, will provide reliable irrigation support to over 500 families and ensure water availability for farming communities across the valley.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, and implemented by the Ladakh Marathon. The inauguration was attended by Shri Rigzen Lundup, Councillor – Tegar Constituency.
Supporting Irrigation and Farming Communities
The restored reservoir is directly linked to the Laksjung Irrigation Canal, which sources water from the Shyok River and extends nearly 14 kilometers. This system supplies critical irrigation to three major villages, benefitting 300 farming families and supporting 875 acres of agricultural land. By ensuring a steady water supply, the project will significantly boost agricultural productivity in Nubra Valley.

Leaders Speak on the Impact
Highlighting the project’s importance, Mr. K. Ganesh, Director – Sustainability & Corporate Affairs, Bisleri International, stated:
“Ensuring water security is critical for communities most vulnerable to climate change. With every initiative under Project Nayi Umeed, we aim to strengthen agricultural resilience, secure livelihoods, and bring lasting prosperity to the region.”
Shri Rigzen Lundup, Councillor – Tegar Constituency, added:
“Ladakh faces growing water scarcity due to rising temperatures and changing snowfall patterns. This reservoir restoration is a timely and meaningful step that directly supports our farmers and strengthens food security.”
Shri Chewang Motup, Founder & CEO, Ladakh Marathon, said:
“This project demonstrates the power of partnerships in creating climate-resilient communities. Together with Bisleri and LAHDC, we are proud to contribute to a more sustainable future for Ladakh.”
Continuing Bisleri’s Water Stewardship
This is the third successful reservoir restoration by Bisleri in Nubra Valley. In 2023 and 2024, the company restored reservoirs in Sumoor Village, benefitting over 200 households and improving irrigation for vast stretches of farmland.
Under Project Nayi Umeed, part of the Bisleri Greener Promise philosophy, the company has so far:
- Built or restored 336 check dams
- Harvested nearly 28 billion litres of water
- Benefited over 64,000 farmers and families
- Irrigated more than 20,878 acres of farmland
Driving Climate Resilience in Ladakh
