Hyderabad, India, December 13, 2023 – Hyderabad took center stage as a global hub for discussions on artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation during ICIS 2023, attracting over 1000 participants from 45 countries, including Information Systems researchers, academics, and professionals. Hosted by the Association for Information Systems (AIS), ICIS 2023 marked a historic moment as it convened in India for the first time in its 43-year history.

Renowned as one of the most exclusive AIS conferences globally, ICIS brings together top research papers and authors in the field, fostering invaluable networking and research experiences. The conference featured 23 research tracks covering diverse aspects of AI and digital innovation, ranging from human-technology interaction to the societal impact of AI.

Honorary Conference Chair, Dr. Rahul De’ from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, highlighted, “ICIS 2023 stimulates discussions on cutting-edge advancements in AI, covering topics such as AI in Business and Society, Platforms and the Sharing Economy, Cybersecurity and Privacy, Governance and Digital Strategy, Future of Work, and Societal Impact of IS.”

The conference theme, ‘Rising Like a Phoenix: Reshaping Human Endeavors with Digital Technologies,’ emphasized exploring the transformative potential of AI. Professor Rahul De, Honorary co-chair, noted, “ICIS 2023 serves as a nexus for global thought leaders to converge and envision the future of these technologies.”

Co-Chair Suprateek Sarker, University of Virginia, USA, highlighted the unique blend of Indian IT prowess and cultural ethos showcased at the conference. Co-Chair Virpi Kristiina Tuunainen, Aalto University, Finland, expressed satisfaction in bringing ICIS to India, fostering international collaboration in Hyderabad’s high-tech environment.

ICIS 2023 prioritized inclusivity, featuring diverse global perspectives and industry participation for the first time. Souren Paul, Co-Chair, Northern Kentucky University, USA, emphasized the conference’s exclusivity, with only 27% of research papers accepted on average, a testament to its global impact.

Sessions included the IT Leadership Forum (CIO Forum), panels, symposia, workshops, and keynote presentations. Dr. Bhaskar Ghosh, Chief Strategy Officer at Accenture, was a keynote speaker. The conference also introduced a practitioner-oriented research track, bridging theory and practice in Hyderabad’s renowned tech hub.

Noteworthy features included a “paper hackathon” for fostering new research collaborations and a “Senior Slam” bringing together ICIS stars. Post-conference, select papers may undergo a fast-tracked review process for possible publication in top journals, highlighting ICIS’s commitment to advancing impactful research in the evolving landscape of information systems.

The conference is being held from December 10-13. To know more about the conference and proceedings visit https://icis2023.aisconferences.org/about/
