Mumbai/Thiruvananthapuram, December 10, 2024 – Kerala-based semiconductor startup Netrasemi has secured ₹10 crore in a Pre-Series A funding round led by Unicorn India Ventures. The investment will be used to fabricate two AI-powered ML SoC chips, Netra A2000 and Netra R1000, aimed at transforming Edge AI for IoT products.

Founded in 2020 by Jyothis Indirabhai, Sreejith Varma, and Deepa Geetha, Netrasemi is pioneering India’s Edge AI semiconductor technology space by building system-on-chips (SoCs) that power smart IoT products. With a robust team of 61 members, Netrasemi offers a family of AI/ML-capable SoCs and reference designs that address 100+ AI/ML use cases. These chips enable advanced on-device AI analytics, eliminating reliance on cloud-based processing, making IoT devices smarter, faster, and more cost-effective.

Over the last 12 months, Netrasemi has gained strong traction from major OEMs in medical, telecom, and industrial sectors across international markets. The company generated approximately $0.75 million in revenue through chip design and porting services for strategic partners and forecasts 150% growth in FY25 with additional IP revenue streams. Exponential growth is anticipated from FY27 as volume chip production scales.

Anil Joshi, Managing Partner at Unicorn India Ventures, said, “The Edge AI market holds immense potential as AI continues to transform industries worldwide. Netrasemi is uniquely positioned with its advanced AI chips for edge devices, and we are confident that this funding will accelerate their growth trajectory. The company has shown remarkable progress in a short span and is well-placed to capitalize on the growing demand for Edge AI solutions.”

Netrasemi has developed three flagship SoCsNetra-R1000, Netra-A2000, and Netra-A4000—all powered by its efficient Domain-Specific Architecture (DSA) and proprietary Graph-Stream Hardware Acceleration technology. These energy-efficient, cost-optimized chips are tailored to specific end-user requirements, helping solution providers accelerate the development of ML and computer vision applications.

Jyothis Indirabhai, Co-founder of Netrasemi, stated, “Netrasemi’s family of chips will be the first AI/ML-powered SoCs designed and developed in India for intelligent edge devices. Our in-house development of digital IPs allows us to fully own the chip and its components. With Unicorn India Ventures’ backing, this funding is a critical step in scaling our innovation and achieving our vision for Edge AI.”

Netrasemi’s target markets include surveillance, smart sensors, infrastructure, Industry 4.0, robotics, drones, and autonomous vehicles. With growing demand for video surveillance driven by smart city projects and increasing privacy concerns, Netrasemi aims to address key sectors such as government, industrial, BFSI, transportation, and beyond.

The company is poised to revolutionize Edge AI product development with its scalable and affordable solutions, positioning itself as a frontrunner in India’s rapidly evolving semiconductor and IoT ecosystem.
