Foundation stone unveiled at the Tribal Festival 2025 in Keylong, Lahaul & Spiti

Keylong, Lahaul & Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, India | 19th August 2025: Lahaul & Spiti etched its name in history with the grand success of the State-Level Tribal Festival 2025, held from 14th to 16th August at the Police Ground, Keylong. Organized by the District Administration, this three-day cultural extravaganza became Himachal Pradesh’s first-ever eco-friendly and zero-waste festival, setting a new standard for sustainable celebrations in the state.

Chief Minister Launches Development Projects Worth ₹36 Crore

The festival was virtually inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Shri Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who also laid the foundation stone for key development projects worth ₹36 crore in the Lahaul region. The event witnessed overwhelming participation from local communities, tourists, and cultural enthusiasts, with over 790 homestays and 70 hotels supporting the influx of visitors.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “Lahaul is not only a land of unmatched beauty and cultural depth, but also a symbol of how sustainable development and heritage preservation can go hand-in-hand. The eco-friendly Tribal Festival 2025 is a shining example of an environmentally conscious Himachal Pradesh.”

Cultural Pride Meets Sustainable Celebrations

The festival was led by Ms. Kiran Bhadana (IAS), Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul & Spiti, whose vision transformed the event into a platform celebrating both tribal heritage and ecological responsibility. With complete bans on single-use plastic, biodegradable utensils, refillable water stations, and active waste segregation by Swachhata volunteers, the festival became a role model for zero-waste celebrations in Himachal Pradesh.

Dignitaries and Community Participation

The event saw the presence of Shri Rajesh Dharmani, Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Technical Education, and Ms. Anuradha Rana, MLA Lahaul-Spiti, alongside district officials and Panchayati Raj representatives. Their participation underscored the festival’s focus on tribal tourism, community integration, and rural livelihoods.

A Blend of Tradition, Culture & Sports

From the vibrant Shobha Yatra and the 79th District Independence Day celebrations to electrifying evening performances by Da Shugs Band (Ladakh), Faisal Ashoor, Rosy Sharma, and Firdaus Band, the festival showcased the cultural richness of Lahaul & Spiti. Traditional dances like Jabro and Chabskyan, beauty pageants including Mr. & Ms. Lahaul-Spiti, Tribal Queen, and Tribal King, along with sports competitions such as cricket, volleyball, and tug of war added to the festive spirit.

Pre-Festival Events: A Valley-Wide Celebration

In the run-up to the main festival (2nd to 13th August), the administration organised yoga camps, plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, painting and poetry contests, and traditional sports. These initiatives ensured valley-wide community participation and built anticipation for the grand event.

Exhibitions & Livelihood Opportunities

More than a dozen departments showcased government schemes and services, while the Health Department conducted free check-ups for 200+ people. Local SHGs, Tribes India, and artisans promoted handicrafts, tribal cuisine, and organic products, boosting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
