Mumbai, August 25, 2025 — Mahindra Susten, the cleantech arm of the Mahindra Group and one of India’s leading independent power producers (IPPs), has announced the appointment of Avinash Rao as its new Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, effective September 24, 2025.
Rao brings nearly 30 years of leadership experience across conventional energy, renewables, and power transmission. Most recently, he served as CEO of Sustainable Energy Infra Investment Managers (SEIIM), the investment manager to SEIT—India’s largest listed renewable energy InvIT. His previous roles at Sekura India Management (Edelweiss Alternatives) and CLP India further underscore his expertise in building scalable, sustainable energy platforms.
Leading the Next Chapter of Clean Energy Growth
In his new role, Rao will spearhead Mahindra Susten’s ambitious growth strategy, expanding its current portfolio of 1.6 GW of commissioned projects and a 3.6 GW development pipeline across solar, wind, hybrid, and commercial & industrial (C&I) solutions. The company is targeting 5.4 GWp by FY2027, with a sharp focus on energy storage and integrated clean energy systems—including flagship projects like the Modhera 24×7 solar village, powered by a 6 MW solar + 15 MWh battery plant.
Backed by the Mahindra Group and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), which holds a 39.99% equity stake, Mahindra Susten has transitioned from an EPC model to a full-fledged IPP. The company is now recognized among India’s top ten IPPs by awarded capacity and is one of the few with SBTi-approved climate targets.
