More than 50% of Indian students turn to online learning platforms to connect with and learn from like-minded peers or to solve complex concepts with their help, reveals Brainly survey

National, January 8, 2020: Online learning is now globally acknowledged as one of the most effective methods of learning. Yet there exists very little research on its actual benefits. To address this issue, Brainly, the world’s largest online learning community for students, parents, and teachers, surveyed its Indian user-base.

More than 50% of Indian students turn to online learning platforms to connect with and learn from like-minded peers or to solve complex concepts with their help, reveals Brainly survey

The research revealed that approximately 25.7% of the total participants preferred working in a group on projects and assignments, while over 22.6% felt group-studying is essential during exams. Interestingly, 13.2% of these students chose group studies throughout the academic year, indicating the importance of collective learning for them. When inquired whether online learning mechanisms helped students with their studies, over 34.7% of the participants responded that these modes aided them in solving complex problems with the help of their peers. While over 25.7% affirmed an improvement in their academic performance, 15.9% reported a surge in their confidence through the use of these e-learning tools. Moreover, about 15.6% of them also stated that these online learning modes helped them connect and learn from like-minded peers, which they felt was an indispensable part of their holistic learning.

The survey drew further insights into the perception that students hold regarding online learning platforms. These can be further illustrated from the fact that 46.4% of respondents believed such platforms to be highly beneficial for their studies, while over 29.3% considered them slightly less. While 32.8% of the students leveraged them for their homework, 25.9% used them for exam preparations, 17.4% turned to these for projects and assignments, and 14.3% sought guidance from such tools on a day-to-day basis. Furthermore, over 57.7% dedicated on an average more than two hours every week to these online learning channels, while 23.9% put 2-6 hours, and 10.5% spent more than 10 hours weekly on gaining knowledge from these portals. These figures are indicative of how new-age online learning platforms like Brainly have emerged as an adept and resourceful means in guiding students towards academic and holistic excellence.

Commenting on the findings of the survey, Michał Borkowski, Co-founder, and CEO, Brainly remarked, “It is rightly said that ‘knowledge shared is knowledge squared’, and this is perfectly exemplified by the rise of online learning platforms. Especially in a country like India where the education system lays great emphasis on homework and assignments for a student’s academic learning, such a concept is gaining great traction and appreciation by students, parents, experts, and teachers alike. Our purpose behind conducting this survey was to tap into the students’ minds and discern their outlook towards peer-to-peer learning, specifically in an online setting. ”

With an overall Indian user-base of 20 million and growing, Brainly has proved its mettle as one of the most effective online channels addressing academic doubts while enabling a deeper understanding. By providing students with an extensive network of peers, parents, teachers, and experts, the medium has been facilitating a flexible and comprehensive learning experience, thus becoming one of the most preferred online portals in the Indian education landscape. The findings in this survey reiterate on how online learning platforms like Brainly are gaining steady momentum in India, connecting students with fellow learners and experts from all over the world.
