New NPWT Manual Launched to Standardize Advanced Wound Care Across India

Unveiled at the NoWound Clinical Dialogues Meet to Address Critical Gaps in Wound Treatment Protocols

New Delhi, July 8, 2025 — Amid mounting challenges posed by diabetes-related ulcers, trauma injuries, and chronic wounds, a new clinical guide titled Negative Pressure Wound Therapy: A Practical Manual for Advanced Wound Care was formally launched at the 2025 edition of the NoWound Clinical Dialogues Meet. Developed with support from APAR Health and leading medical experts, the manual aims to streamline protocol-based wound care and make advanced therapies more accessible throughout India’s healthcare system.

India currently faces a growing wound care crisis, with 62 million diabetic patients, of whom 25% are at risk for diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). Delayed diagnosis and inadequate treatment result in nearly one in five DFU cases requiring amputation. The situation is compounded by rising trauma injuries and limited access to standardized wound care in Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions.

To bridge these treatment gaps, over 20 eminent clinicians from plastic surgery, vascular, and orthopedic specialties contributed to the manual’s development. Drawing on both global best practices and Indian clinical realities, the manual serves as a step-by-step guide to Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)—a clinically proven method that accelerates healing, minimizes infection, and reduces hospital stays.

“Wound care in India must shift from being reactive to being protocol-led and outcome-focused,” said Dr. Aditya Aggarwal, Vice Chairman, Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, and Chief Editor of the manual. “This manual equips healthcare professionals—from tertiary centers to rural hospitals—with the tools to apply NPWT safely and effectively.”

“Its strength lies in its practical relevance,” noted Dr. Tarun Grover, Co-Chief Editor and Director at Medanta’s Vascular Sciences division. “It reflects how wound care is delivered in real clinical settings, not just theory.”

Dr. Varun Gupta, CEO of NoWound by MedVital Ventures and Scientific Advisor to the manual, emphasized, “This is a clinician’s tool, built from decades of field experience, crafted to improve confidence, reduce complications, and empower smarter decision-making in wound care.”

The manual includes:

  • Clinical protocols for chronic, post-surgical, and traumatic wounds
  • Real-world adaptations for infrastructure-constrained settings
  • Guidance on cost-efficiency, device care, and nursing workflows
  • Strategies for NPWT homecare and long-term monitoring

Released by KSG Publications, the initiative represents a cross-specialty collaboration to make NPWT more widely understood and practiced—especially in regions where 70% of patients still lack access to advanced, affordable care.

The launch is part of a broader national effort to embed protocol-based wound care into secondary and tertiary institutions, helping reduce preventable amputations and treatment delays. As India scales its healthcare infrastructure, this manual is poised to become a cornerstone resource in transforming wound care delivery across Bharat.
