Paytm Mall sees non-essential products demand double in a week, consumer electronics top sales

11th May 2020: Paytm Mall (owned by Paytm Ecommerce Private Limited), which is redefining the e-commerce space in India with its unique O2O (Offline to Online) model, today announced that non-essential items demand has doubled in the past one week. The company has witnessed a massive surge in search of big-ticket items including mobile phones, laptops, home, and kitchen among other things.

During the first three days after non-essential goods were allowed to be sold in green and orange zones, the company saw a steady increase in demand and sales of headphones, speakers, mobile & laptop accessories, home items. There has been an overall 1.5X increase in demand for consumer electronics including headphones like Bluetooth and over the ear headphones from popular brands including JBL, Boat on the platform. With India working and studying from home, the demands for headphones, laptop & mobile accessories, keyboards, data cables, memory sticks, has also gone up.

The company witnessed a surge in searches and the sale of mobiles, masks, and trimmers. These categories will see strong sales once more relaxations in red zones come and the trend seems to remain strong over the next few weeks.

Paytm Mall has also seen some surprising trends emerging in the last one week. With more families spending time together, the company has been seeing a surge in demand for popular board games including Ludo, Chess, Monopoly, Scrabble, and Risk. It has brought in new suppliers to cater to the increase in demand.

Srinivas Mothey, Senior Vice President Paytm Mall said, “People are buying products that cater to the change in their lifestyle caused by this prolonged stay at home. They are buying high-quality audio headphones, for meetings, as well as other assorted items to work from home. Families are spending more time playing board games which is a happy sign of people making an effort to lead a normal life. We believe with more red zones turning orange and green, the surge in non-essentials would be double that of normal days.”
