Gurugram, August 12, 2026: PayU, India’s leading diversified fintech platform, today announced the launch of Accessible Payments Checkout, the country’s first RBI-compliant payment checkout designed for people who are blind or visually impaired.

The launch marks a significant step towards digital inclusion, enabling more people to make online payments independently. As India celebrates Independence Day, the initiative reinforces the importance of ensuring that everyone can participate in the digital economy with confidence.

With this launch, PayU becomes the first payment gateway in India to comply with the Reserve Bank of India’s October 2024 accessibility mandate (BIS IS 17802).

Key Accessibility Features
The new PayU Accessibility Checkout introduces four core features:

  • Full Screen-Reader Optimisation: Seamless navigation with screen readers, ensuring every step of the payment journey is announced clearly.
  • Adaptive User Profiles: Customizable checkout environments with adjustable cursor size, button dimensions, and navigation aids.
  • Visual Inclusivity Modes: Options for high contrast, greyscale, colour inversion, and saturation adjustments to support users with low vision, colour blindness, or light sensitivity.
  • Text Resizing: Supports text scaling up to 200% without content overlap, ensuring clarity for visually impaired users.

Manas Mishra, Chief Product Officer, PayU and Wibmo: “True financial inclusion is only possible when every individual can access and use digital payments independently. Accessibility is not an afterthought—it’s a core design principle. With our Accessibility Checkout, we’re enabling merchants to deliver inclusive payment experiences while supporting the RBI’s accessibility vision.”

Prashant Ranjan Verma, General Secretary, National Association for the Blind, Delhi: “I appreciate PayU’s efforts to make digital payments more accessible. I was able to complete a UPI payment independently using PayU’s accessibility-first checkout with VoiceOver. This is a meaningful step towards empowering people with visual impairments to transact confidently.”
