New Delhi, India | May 19, 2025: Sapphire Media Limited has officially acquired FM radio giant BIG 92.7 FM, marking a significant milestone in the Indian media and entertainment sector.
Previously owned by Reliance Broadcast Networks Limited, BIG 92.7 FM had been undergoing a corporate insolvency resolution process since February 2023, with Rohit Mehra appointed as the Resolution Professional overseeing the proceedings.
Following a comprehensive review, Sapphire Media Limited’s resolution plan received final approvals from both the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and the NCLT Mumbai Bench on December 23, 2024, and May 6, 2025, respectively. Objections raised by competing bidders, including Radio Orange, were dismissed during the legal process.
Having secured all requisite statutory approvals from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Sapphire Media has now assumed full management and board control of BIG 92.7 FM. The company has also fulfilled its financial obligations to the Committee of Creditors in accordance with the approved resolution timelines.
BIG 92.7 FM, one of India’s largest and most recognized radio networks, operates 58 stations across the country, reaching over 1,200 towns and more than 50,000 villages. Known for its vibrant programming and strong listener loyalty—boasting a national audience of over 340 million—the brand is poised for a strategic revival under Sapphire Media’s leadership.
This acquisition further strengthens Sapphire Media’s aggressive expansion strategy in the rapidly evolving content and broadcast ecosystem. BIG FM will now benefit from an infusion of fresh energy, digital innovation, and creative synergy as part of Sapphire’s vision to build a future-ready media powerhouse.
The move comes on the heels of Sapphire Media’s successful launch of India Daily 24×7, a Hindi news channel that has quickly gained traction for its credible reporting and contemporary approach to journalism.
