‘Woman of the New Millennium’ Hackathon Series, Road to GES) - 12 Girls turn victorious and bags awards

26th November 2017: In the week leading up to and following beyond GES 2017, a series of events are being hosted across the world. As a part of this series, on Nov 25 and 26, Girls in Tech Foundation conducted a hackathon themed on ‘Woman of the New Millennium’. This event is being sponsored and hosted by Microsoft.

Girls in Tech Foundation organised the event, in co-partnership with Wave Labs, supported by Department of Youth Services, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana & AICTE, Min of HRD, Government of India and the US Consulate General Hyderabad.

250 girls from computer science streams in engineering colleges, from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states participated in this hackathon – Road to GES.

In the finals today Twelve girls were selected from Gayatri Vidya Parishad, Vizag and IIIT, Hyderabad to participate in forth coming GES summit 2017, all the participants were awarded mentorship and incubation at IIIT – Hyderabad. Cash awards were awarded to five winning teams by startup India and Shivnadar University under the Prime Ministers Atal incubation center. Internships were offered by Wavelabs to six girls and a host of other awards. Telangana Government has awarded one team incubation at T-Hub and Andhra Pradesh government offered incubation, investment and project support for interested teams.

This hackathon aims to address real world issues as articulated through specially designed focus groups of entrepreneurs running Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

About the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES)
The theme for GES 2017, being held at Hyderabad, is ‘Women First, Prosperity for All’. At least 50 percent of the delegates to the event, both entrepreneurs and investors, will be women. There will be approximately 1,500 delegates invited through a closed application process, including 400 entrepreneurs from the US, 400 from India, 400 from other countries and 300 investors. Activities and sessions at the summit will be around various industries and focus areas viz. Energy & Infrastructure, Healthcare & Life sciences, Financial Technology, Digital Economy, Media & Entertainment, Education, Social Impact, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
