Mumbai | February 22, 2026: The construction of a state-of-the-art heritage museum in Guwahati commenced today, marking a significant collaboration between the JSW Group and the Government of Assam. Conceived as a landmark cultural institution, the museum will serve as a hub for the preservation, promotion, and global recognition of Assam’s rich artistic and spiritual heritage.
Foundation Stone Ceremony
The commencement of construction was marked by the laying of the foundation stone by:
- Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Honourable Chief Minister of Assam.
- Mr. Sajjan Jindal, Chairman, JSW Group.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished dignitaries, including:
- Mrs. Savitri Jindal.
- Mrs. Sangita Jindal.
- Shri Bimal Borah, Honourable Minister for Cultural Affairs of Assam.
- Mr. Richard Blurton, Museum Curator & Former Head of South and Southeast Asia, British Museum.
Museum Vision and Development
- Location: Sericulture Farm, Khanapara, Guwahati.
- Site Area: 45,000 square feet, allotted by the Government of Assam.
- Funding: Fully funded by JSW Group.
- Purpose: To become a world-class cultural destination, hosting:
- National and international artefacts.
- Travelling exhibitions.
- Curated cultural showcases.
- Global cultural exchange programs.

Highlight Exhibition: Vrindavani Vastra
The inaugural exhibition will showcase the Vrindavani Vastra, a celebrated 17th-century devotional textile woven under the spiritual guidance of Srimanta Sankardev.
- Composition: Multiple woven silk panels.
- Themes: Narrative scenes from the Bhagavata Purana, depicting episodes from Krishna’s early life in Vrindavan, including Kaliyadamana and Vastraharana.
- Significance: Regarded as one of Assam’s most important surviving sacred textiles, symbolizing the region’s artistic excellence and spiritual depth.
