EON Space Labs Develops India’s Lightest Multispectral Earth Imaging Payload MIRA, Set for Launch on ISRO PSLV‑C62

Hyderabad / New Delhi | January 9, 2026: EON Space Labs, a Hyderabad‑based deep‑tech startup, is set to mark a major milestone in India’s private space ecosystem with the launch of its ultra‑light multispectral imaging payload MIRA aboard ISRO’s PSLV‑C62 mission, scheduled for January 12, 2026 at 10:17 hrs from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

MIRA has been integrated with MOI‑1, a 14‑kg CubeSat developed by fellow Hyderabad startup TakeMe2Space, and will demonstrate the viability of India’s first AI‑powered orbital image laboratories. The mission enables near real‑time, in‑orbit processing of Earth observation data, significantly lowering data downlink costs and expanding accessibility of space‑based intelligence.

Payload Innovation: MIRA

  • Weight & Dimensions: 502 grams; 54 × 54 × 87 mm
  • Design: Miniaturised optical system carved from a single block of fused silica for enhanced stability and reduced vibration sensitivity
  • Certification: NASA space‑grade standards
  • Capabilities: Multispectral imaging across nine bands, ground sampling distance of 9.2 metres, swath width of 18.7 km
  • Integration: Onboard computing with MOI‑1 for AI‑driven in‑orbit analysis

Sanjay Kumar, Co‑Founder, EON Space Labs, said: “The launch of MIRA aboard MOI‑1 represents a shift in how Earth observation missions are designed. Instead of merely capturing images and sending raw data back to Earth, satellites can now generate insights in orbit—transforming cost, speed, and accessibility of space‑based intelligence.”

MOI‑1 CubeSat: AI Lab in Space

Ronak Samantray, Founder of TakeMe2Space, added: “MOI‑1 is built to democratise access to space‑based data intelligence. With EON Space Labs’ imaging payload integrated into our in‑orbit compute platform, developers and organisations can run AI workloads in space without owning or operating a satellite.”

Applications include:

  • Environmental monitoring
  • Disaster response
  • Urban analysis
  • Resource mapping

Mission Context
PSLV‑C62 is a multi‑payload mission carrying EOS‑N1 (Anvesha) and several technology demonstration payloads. The mission underscores ISRO’s support for India’s growing private space sector and NewSpace startups.

About EON Space Labs
Incubated at IIT Madras and founded in 2022, EON Space Labs designs and manufactures advanced imaging payloads with dual‑use defence and commercial applications. The startup was shortlisted as an iDEX winner for innovations in miniaturisation of high‑resolution electro‑optic systems. Its vertically integrated model—from optical design to in‑house prototyping and manufacturing—ensures speed, precision, and control.

Applications span defence, disaster management, agriculture, and smart infrastructure, with commercial orders already secured. EON is scaling operations to meet demand in the USD 11 billion global EO/IR market, anchoring India’s strategic self‑reliance capabilities.
