New Delhi, September 2019: The Indigram Labs Foundation (ILF), a technology-based incubator, has launched the “Adhunik Gram, a Smart Village Program” initiative to facilitate agribusiness in rural India. Applications for the program are now available till the end of October 2019.
Indigram Labs is one of India’s leading agribusiness incubators based in New Delhi, and ILF seeks to foster and nurture viable business ideas through consulting, mentoring, leveraging technology linkages and providing access to multiple platforms.
The “Adhunik Gram” initiative focuses on the upliftment of the rural economy as a whole. The concept of Smart Villages prophesies e-literacy skills, access to e-health and other basic services, innovative solutions for environmental concerns, circular economy applications for agricultural waste, promotion of local products supported by technology and software, implementation and full use of smart specialised agro-food projects, tourism and cultural activities, etc.
The Smart Village also provides long-term social, economic and environmental welfare activities for the village community. This provision of distinct elements will facilitate and empower improved involvement in local governance procedures to foster entrepreneurship and create more resilient communities. In addition, adequate sanitation facilities, excellent education, better infrastructure, clean drinking water, health services, environmental protection, resource efficiency, waste management of renewable energy, etc. will also be ensured.
The Indigram Labs Foundation supports start-ups in the fields of agriculture, food, renewable energy and healthcare already. Indigram focuses on promoting and fostering agri-preneurship as well as growth of the village economy by launching the SMART village.
Commenting on the launch of this initiative, Dr. Manisha Acharya, CEO, ILF said, “It is anticipated that this initiative will be a stepping stone to connect the villages and the countryside, stakeholders and policy makers are invited to participate and work with us to deliver on the promise of ‘A Better Life in Rural Areas.’
There are a few potential areas ILF has identified where smart village creates significant and measurable impacts and start-ups can find a solution in the following key areas:
- Smart Dairy-Remote supervision and monitoring in open fields and barns
- Smart Farming- Satellite data for farm activities
- Smart agriculture- Smart agricultural equipment for crop production
- Smart Weather and Irrigation-Weather forecast water levels in dams
- Smart health care –Smart beds and equipment to monitor the patient/digital healthcare
- Smart Education – Interactive learning through videos
- Smart Energy- Alternative renewable energy(e.g Solar energy, Biomass energy)
- Smart surveillance system – CC cameras and sensors to detect robbery
- Smart Buildings – security cameras, fire safety, electricity management
Any student founder may apply whether or not an engineer, but the team must be in a position to finish the personal interview round to be chosen.
For the Smart Village initiative, the following action plan will be implemented:
- Call for application to identify and solve the problem of a village (open till the end of October 2019)
- Selection of top-10 startups
- Arranging workshops for the selected start-ups
- Final demo day-cash award and providing pilot test facility to the start-ups
