New Delhi | 21 May 2025: In a historic initiative following the success of Operation Sindoor, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has unveiled the ‘Jai Jawan Scholarship’, offering 100% tuition fee waivers to all active defence and paramilitary personnel enrolling in LPU’s UGC-entitled online undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. With this, LPU cements its role as a national leader in educational inclusion by launching the world’s largest private scholarship scheme in education, exclusively for India’s 22 lakh active service members.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, chaired by Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Founder Chancellor of LPU and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).
“No amount of salutes are enough to honour the bravery and sacrifices of our Armed Forces,” said Dr. Mittal. “This scholarship is our heartfelt tribute—especially following the heroism displayed during Operation Sindoor in Pahalgam. Their courage saved countless lives and upheld India’s strength on the global stage. Respect must go beyond words—this is action.”
The Jai Jawan Scholarship is available to all active personnel of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces including the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and SSB, for academic years 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 (including both July and January intakes).
Dr. Mittal emphasized that this initiative aligns with LPU’s broader vision to democratize higher education. “They protect the nation. It’s our duty to empower them with knowledge,” he added.
LPU’s online degree programmes—fully UGC-entitled and NAAC A++ accredited—are uniquely suited to the mobility needs of armed forces personnel, offering flexibility, remote access, and nationwide recognition, with complete equivalence to regular degrees. These programs are accessible anytime, anywhere, whether the learner is stationed at Siachen’s icy frontiers or aboard a submarine in distant waters.
Underscoring LPU’s historic ties with the armed forces, Dr. Mittal shared, “Our connection with the defence community spans over seven decades. The founder of Lovely Group served as a military contractor, and we’ve proudly supported our forces ever since. This legacy drives our mission to serve the nation through education.”
Both jawans and officers across all ranks are eligible. Candidates who have completed Class 12 can enroll in bachelor’s programmes, while graduates can pursue master’s degrees. These qualifications not only support professional growth during active duty but also help transition into rewarding careers post-retirement.
LPU’s online degrees, recognized under UGC Notification F. No. 3-5/2022(DEB-III) dated 2nd September 2022, are accepted for government jobs and further studies in India and abroad. The university currently holds 27th rank in NIRF and is among India’s most prestigious institutions.
