VinFast Opens New EV Assembly Plant in Tamil Nadu, Strengthens Commitment to Indian Market

Tamil Nadu, India | 6th August 2025: Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast has officially inaugurated its cutting-edge EV assembly plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, located within the SIPCOT Industrial Park. This strategic launch marks a pivotal step in the company’s global expansion journey and highlights its long-term investment in India’s rapidly growing EV market—currently the world’s third-largest automobile industry.

Focus on Premium EV Models and Scalable Production

In the plant’s first phase, VinFast Tamil Nadu will assemble two premium electric SUVs: the VF 7 and VF 6. The facility will initially have a production capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year, with plans to scale up to 150,000 units annually to cater to increasing demand.

This new facility plays a crucial role in helping VinFast reach its 2025 sales target of 200,000 vehicles and its long-term goal of producing 1 million EVs annually by 2030.

Strategic Export Hub for South Asia, Middle East, and Africa

Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, emphasized the importance of the Tamil Nadu facility during the inauguration:

“The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant marks a strategic milestone in our long-term commitment to the Indian market. It establishes a strong foundation for sustainable growth and positions us to offer high-quality, competitively priced electric vehicles to Indian consumers.”

He further revealed that the plant is set to become VinFast’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, with initial orders already secured from several countries in these regions.

Driving Local Partnerships and Sustainable Growth

VinFast Tamil Nadu is more than just a manufacturing unit—it’s a cornerstone in India’s transition to green mobility. The company aims to:

  • Promote local supply chain development
  • Facilitate technology transfer
  • Upskill the regional workforce
  • Encourage EV ecosystem growth

VinFast has committed to working closely with the Tamil Nadu government to develop the state into the “EV Capital of South Asia.”

Building an Integrated EV Ecosystem in India

VinFast’s entry into India has been marked by a comprehensive strategy to build a robust EV ecosystem. Key initiatives include:

  • Strategic alliances with dealer groups in major cities
  • Partnerships with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure for digital services and after-sales support
  • Collaboration with BatX Energies to advance battery recycling and reuse, supporting circular economy goals

The newly launched 400-acre plant in Tamil Nadu is a vital component of VinFast’s integrated model covering assembly, distribution, servicing, and sustainability.
