New Delhi, Delhi, India | 30th August 2025: Metalogic PMS successfully hosted its 8th Annual Conference at Le Meridien, New Delhi, uniting industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to deliberate on the theme “Make in Steel, Make in Bharat.” The high-powered event shed light on the critical role of steel in driving India’s economic growth and strengthening its position as a global manufacturing hub.
Steel: The Backbone of India’s Growth
India’s steel demand is anchored by key sectors—construction, infrastructure, automotive, and defence—which collectively consume more than 90% of the country’s steel. With these industries evolving rapidly, there is an increasing need for advanced steel grades and innovative production methods.
The conference emphasized:
- Rising demand for “just-in-time” steel to serve small and emerging sectors.
- Challenges around cost efficiency, raw material availability, and global trade dynamics.
- Opportunities for boosting steel consumption through innovation and sustainability.
Industry Stalwarts Share Insights
The event featured influential voices from India’s steel ecosystem, including:
- Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless
- Ms. Sminu Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal SAW Ltd.
- Mr. Vinod Gupta, Executive Director (Commercial), SAIL
- Mr. V.R. Sharma, Vice Chairman, Naveen Jindal Group

India’s Steel Industry: On a Growth Trajectory
India’s crude steel output reached 55 million tons between April–July FY 2025-26, registering 10.7% growth YoY, while finished steel output hit 51.4 million tons, up 8.5%.
According to Monica Bachchan Duvvuri, Founder & CEO of Metalogic PMS, “Steel is the backbone of key consuming sectors. Our mission is to bring the industry together, address challenges, and encourage higher steel consumption.”
Under the National Steel Policy (NSP), India aims to boost its production capacity to 300 million tonnes by 2030 and raise per capita steel consumption to 160 kg. Projections suggest production could reach 400 million tonnes by 2035, requiring over 550 million tonnes of iron ore. Currently, India’s per capita steel consumption stands at ~108 kg (FY25), leaving significant room for expansion.
