26th May 2020: Saathi, a UN and Time Magazine recognized, award-winning sustainable consumer products company has stepped up its efforts to serve the country in response to COVID-19. Saathi is excited to announce that they are producing biodegradable face masks to reduce the risk of the virus for the citizens of India. Along with that, Saathi kept to its vision of sustainable manufacturing of products which don’t not harm the environment.
Saathi’s Co-founder and CTO, Mr Tarun Bothra, said, “We are stepping up to support India’s fight against COVID-19. We have started production of 3-ply face masks to ensure safety of those who are on the frontlines fighting against COVID-19 and for everyone who will be needing it for safety purposes. In the past 4 months, we have observed that all the protective gear for frontline workers are single-use and made of plastic and would be creating a huge amount of harmful plastic waste. As we are fighting against COVID-19, we should keep our eyes open for other critical problems like climate change and the plastic pollution. The masks we have designed are the first 100% biodegradable masks which are made in India to ensure we don’t negatively affect climate change while fighting COVID-19. ”

The other co-founder of Saathi and CEO Kristin Kagetsu said, “It’s important to observe the products around you and the way you consume to see if there are any adjustments that can be made in order to live more sustainably. Prior to COVID-19 we were working for women’s health and sustainability and now we have extended that thought to everyone’s health but still keeping the sustainable options in mind. We at Saathi are also making sure that what we provide a solution that’s not just sustainable but also affordable.”
