19th March 2020: At a time when humanity is dealing with the outbreak of Coronavirus, organizations across the world are trying their best to contribute to controlling the spread of the pandemic that has reached the shores of over 112 countries, till date. The best way to deal with the current situation is to ensure social distancing by allowing people to work remotely. While organizations are doing their bit to ensure the safety of their workforce, those who are not used to working from home will need to follow certain rules to ensure that their productivity isn’t compromised, affecting the organization’s revenues negatively.
SET UP A FRUGAL HOME OFFICE
Workplaces have a different kind of feeling. They should be distractions free and allow you to work with utmost concentration. While working from home, it’s important for individuals to setup their workstation in a place that is has no-entry protocol for others. During breaks, you can always stroll out of that area, but your work desk must be out of the reach of others.
TREAT IT LIKE A REAL JOB
Just because you can lounge around in your ‘pajamas’ doesn’t mean you actually should. Work-from-home is real job, and must be treated that way. The best practice would be to wear formals, or the dress that you usually wear in your office. The idea is to create a real-office kind of environment during working hours to ensure high productivity levels.
FOCUS ON YOUR OUTPUT
While working from home, the only three factors that will help the company assess your performance are volume, quality, and timeliness of your output. So make sure that you score high on these parameters and get the best raise in your next appraisal.
LIMIT DISTRACTIONS
The use of social media should be completely avoided. While logging into your social media profile may look innocuous in the middle of your work, it can kill your productivity and affect the output like no other.
